Komathy Cumarasamy Hawkins

Born in Sri Lanka, Komathy Hawkins’ creative journey began in early childhood. Even though a sudden displacement as a teenager temporarily distanced her from her creative voice, the past decade has marked a profound reclaiming of her identity.

Today, art is Komathy’s primary language—a vital medium for translating complex emotions and memories.

Having lived in the West for forty years, Komathy creates art that serves as a vibrant bridge back to her roots. Her practice spans the magical, fluid poetry of watercolours to the rich flexibility of oil painting to encapsulate the vibrant colours of her native tropical landscapes.

Her oil practice in particular is grounded with technical training in portraiture and skin tone mixing at City Lit, London, enriching her deep personal connection to figurative work.

Komathy’s evocative storytelling has earned recognition from the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and numerous regional showcases throughout Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

Alongside her private studio practice, she shares her passion and mastery of the medium by leading regular watercolour workshops.
