Oxygen Therapy at Bedford MS Therapy Centre

Bedford MS Therapy Centre has been offering oxygen therapy to the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) community in Bedford for over 40 years. Now, with growing interest in the use of oxygen therapy for a range of different conditions,  the Centre will be offering oxygen sessions to members of the public who feel that the therapy could help them.

What is Oxygen Therapy?

Oxygen therapy is a method of exposing you to higher oxygen levels than you would normally experience, to allow oxygen to be absorbed into your body. This is achieved by breathing pure oxygen through a mask while in a chamber at increased pressure.

Will Oxygen Therapy help my condition/illness/injury/health?

Many people who use our Centre and other oxygen therapy facilities across the country, report a range of benefits for different conditions. These are some of the benefits that people who use oxygen therapy have reported:

  • Faster healing

  • Energy boosts

  • Reduced pain

  • Decreased swelling and inflammation

We cannot say that oxygen therapy will benefit you, but we can offer information for you to decide for yourself if it can help with your condition. Please contact us to get more support.

The MS Therapy Centre is not a clinical setting. You should view Oxygen as an alternative therapy, taken in addition to any treatments or medication prescribed by your GP or clinical team.

The therapy is taken at your own risk.

Is it safe?

Oxygen therapy is very safe. Bedford MS Therapy Centre has provided tens of thousands of oxygen therapy sessions since 1983 without a serious incident. Every session is supervised – we are always on hand to help. The session is conducted by trained operators with whom you have constant contact via an intercom system. Some people find that the increase in pressure affects their ears, just like in an aircraft flight. We can help with this by slowing the rate that the pressure changes in the chamber.

Before you have your first oxygen therapy session, you will complete a health questionnaire to identify any potential contraindications that would mean that we wouldn’t not allow you to use oxygen therapy. While using oxygen therapy you remain under the medical care of your GP and any other medical team you may have. You are always welcome to talk with our manager, Tracy McKenzie, about oxygen therapy.

Which conditions benefit from oxygen therapy?

A number of conditions may benefit from this therapy. These include:

  • Wound healing

  • Long covid

  • Fibromyalgia

How much does oxygen therapy cost?
